Not long after Miguel Sano learned he was headed for Tommy John surgery, the Twins’ third-base prospect walked across the clubhouse to Lester Oliveros’ locker.
Not only did Oliveros have his ulnar collateral ligament reconstructed on Aug. 29, 2012, he used the same surgeon that Sano and the Twins have chosen: Mets medical director Dr. David Altchek.
Surgery should be scheduled in New York sometime in the next two weeks, giving Sano a chance to visit his mother in the Dominican Republic before beginning the long rehab process in Fort Myers.
