On Friday (October 3), Sean “Diddy” Combs was sentenced to four years and two months in prison, along with five years of supervised release and a $500,000 fine. The sentencing follows Combs’ conviction in July for transporting ex-girlfriends and male escorts across state lines for drug-fueled sex parties, and crimes involving coercion, violence, and abuse. U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian rejected Combs’ request for a 14-month sentence, while prosecutors had asked for a sentence of 11 years and three months. The judge handed down his punishment by stating, “A substantial sentence must be given to send a message to abusers and victims alike that exploitation and violence against women is met with real accountability.” In his own statement to the court, Combs admitted, “I got lost in the excess. I got lost in my ego. I’ve been humbled and broken to my core. I hate myself right now. I’ve been stripped down to nothing. I really am truly sorry for it all.” He also addressed his kids and his mother, Janice, while saying, “I failed as a father, I’m so sorry. I failed you as a son. I’m sorry. You taught me better. You raised me better.” (Rolling Stone)
